Pros and Cons of Classic Old Cars For Sale Online
Buying classic cars online is just the natural progression of the market. There is no where to find more classic old used cars for sale than the internet.
There are many reasons that people are interested in buying classic cars. They hearken back to a time when American muscle cars ruled the roads.
Sure, you can find classic cars for sale at some local car dealers, at classic car shows, and some car auctions, but the internet will be the place where the most classic cars can be found in one place and there is the most selection of different examples of any given model. Buying online also gives you the ability to see pictures of the vehicles you are shopping for as well as descriptions from the seller describing the quality and features of the cars themselves. Since there are no new models and option lists to choose from, it is even more important to have as many choices as possible to find the model with exactly the features and options you are looking for.
There are many reasons that people are interested in buying classic cars. They hearken back to a time when American muscle cars ruled the roads. When more and more power was added with each year and performance was nearly that of today’s sports cars. The style that cars exhibited cannot be match by today’s autos. In the search for more efficiency and lower wind resistance characteristics, much of the soul that was once found on many cars has been stripped away. Modern safety features also would not allow a car to be made these days like those of the past. Since there are no cars rolling off the production lines that can match the feel and charisma of these cars, they are very popular alternatives to modern vehicles. With one of these classic cars, you can relive that time with every drive, without computer controls or driver assistance programs interfering with the joy of the drive. They are more simple mechanical devices with little between the driver’s seat and the rubber meeting road.
What Are The Pros And Cons?
As with any major purchase, it is important to weigh the pros and cons of such a purchase. Certainly, there are some of both when it comes to classic old cars for sale.
Pros
There are many good things to consider with classic cars. They have large powerful engines that propel these vehicles down the road with exceptional force. They can out accelerate many of today’s cars that are more concerned with fuel economy than with performance. The nature of the acceleration provided by large, low revving engines is different than that provided by smaller, higher revving engines as well. This is due to the large amount of torque that engines produce. While large amounts of horsepower can be generated by small engines spinning at high revolutions per minute, torque is the amount of low end twist that the engines can apply to the tires. The sound and vibration that these huge engines of yesteryear provide is another unique and sought after feature. They literally thrum with the power they produce, with enough torque to rock the cars body when the throttle is depressed. The style of these vehicles is unique as well, modern cars are designed to make the most of the available with little room for the eccentric design of some of the vehicles. These vehicles have a very direct connection between the driver and the road as well. There is no technology between the drivers control inputs and what the car does. They are only limited by the physics involved with the vehicle itself.
Cons
Unfortunately some of the very things that make these cars so interesting and desirable are also some of its biggest drawbacks. The huge engines that give these vehicles their awesome power are also responsible for some for the worst fuel economy of any passenger vehicle in history. These engines had no pollution control systems either, making them literally smog pumps, expelling huge amounts of pollution into the air compared with modern cars. The simple nature of these vehicles meant that they were made of steel rather than some of the more exotic materials like aluminum or carbon fiber that help reduce the weight of modern vehicles. They also didn’t benefit from the modern bonded Unibody construction, but were instead a body on frame design. This added up to a passenger car that may weigh over 1000 pounds more than a modern car of comparable size. Their flamboyant styling works against them as well, with large body panels that were not very aerodynamic forcing them to push their way through the air at speed and further hampering their fuel economy. The problems with these vehicles didn’t end with how they were made however. When looking for a classic old car for sale today, you will find that the price of a model in good shape can be as much as a small house. Not to mention that with modern emissions standards, these cars may need to be updated to pass inspection in certain states.
Who Buys Them
There is a large market for classic old cars for sale. Many people want to relive the freedom of the road that these cars embody and driving one is the best way to do so. People who remember when these vehicles were new but were either too young to drive them or didn’t have the financial means. Others just like the raw power these vehicles exhibit.
